Aggies Take Loss Hard

“This is the hardest loss I’ve ever had to deal with in my life,” said Coach Gary Andersen at the post game press conference. He continued, “Undisciplined football teams don’t win games. We have not been undisciplined all year long. I would say we’ve been a very disciplined football team for four games.”

Andersen isn’t the only one struggling to swallow the emotional pill of defeat. The players are disheartened by the outcome as well. Even Robert Turbin, who gave a great individual effort to the tune of 184 yards rushing, had a heavy heart. “I play to win the football game, I don’t play for individual stats. This is one of the hardest situations I’ve been in, in my life,” Turbin said. “We expected a lot more than this. This game shouldn’t have been close.”

As difficult as this loss may have been for the players and coaches, it may have been even tougher for the Utah State fans. After decades of mediocre football, many USU faithful have deemed this as the start of a new era. Hopes were high for this team to make a big splash this season, and a new buzz was present in Utah State football conversations everywhere. There may not have been a more exciting feeling about the program in recent history. But all the dreaming and wishing of a new era came crashing down after the loss last night. The buzz and excitement have been replaced with the reality of yet another below average football team.

You won’t find a more resilient and dedicated fan base as the Aggies. You won’t find another fan base more deserving of an new era in football. Let’s hope this was just a false start on the path to greatness.
