USU vs BYU
Is it a coincidence that I launch this site on the same day that USU plays heated rival BYU? I think not.
I’ll be straight up. USU is the underdog in this one, and rightfully so. It doesn’t take a USU sports buff to tell you that. And while that doesn’t make for much of a story there is a lot of noise being made about this game. You see, Utah State has a new face. People look at us differently as a football team. And while we will likely lose this game, we are not being overlooked. Here’s some Aggie noise about the game tonight:
Here is a quote from a Deseretnews article by Jeff Call:
“I don’t think anyone on our team will forget that. I think they’re preparing for a tough game (tonight). Utah State is much improved.” – Bronco Mendenhall
Here’s another from Gordon Monson of the SLTrib:
“Elements of improvement at Utah State are springing up. It no longer plays like the whupped victim, the disheartened dog it has been for so long, taking pride now in performances, no matter the score.”
Doug Alden at CacheValleyDaily.com says:
“It is still a rivalry with fans, shown last year when BYU was taunted with jeers of “over-rated!” even after the eighth-ranked Cougars took a 24-0 lead in the first quarter and won 34-14 in Logan.
The Aggies finished with 322 yards, broke the Cougars’ string of 11 straight shutout quarters with two touchdowns in the fourth and flustered BYU into 12 penalties.”
Today’s Herald Jornal has this article by Wade Denniston:
The Aggies are still waiting to have their day against a team they’re not supposed to beat, but Turbin says they’re close.
“We’re playing really well right now, especially on offense,” he said. “There’s gonna be a big game that’s gonna come around, and we’re gonna need a play in the fourth quarter or big play toward the end of the half, something that’s gonna set the tone and give us that edge.
“With what we’re doing now on offense, we’re starting to come together as an offense. We’re clicking and I think we’re gonna be able to make those big plays when the opportunities come around.”
